  • Healthy Lifestyle protects the heart !

    Open or Close
Healthy lifestyle reduces the likelihood of (but doesn't give full immunity against) heart attack. Indeed, heart attack remains a common cause of death among individuals without the traditional risk factors. Therefore, NEVER exclude the possibility of heart attack if you have a relatively safe profile; and ALWAYS seek medical help if you have any suspicious symptom.
  • What is a TIA?

    Open or Close
TIA or Mini-stroke is a warning sign of an impending stroke. Patients develop symptoms similar to stroke e.g. weakness and numbness in half of the face or body, and/or speech difficulties; yet they FULLY disappear within few minutes. Consulting with a specialist is essential to reduce the risk of a full-blown stroke, which may supervenes in 10% of cases within hours, days, or weeks.
  • What is Broken Heart?

    Open or Close
Broken heart syndrome is a previously under-recognized disease, which happens after severe emotional stress e.g death of a loved one; or serious physical illness. It is often misdiagnosed as heart attack as it produce similar symptoms e.g. chest pain, and breathing difficulties. Outcome, however, is more favourable, as most patients recover within 4 weeks. So, don't say "Broken Hearts Never Mends".
  • Can I use Aspirin in suspected Stroke?

    Open or Close
Aspirin, a blood thinner, is useful for heart attack, which develops due to a clot in an artery that supplies the heart with blood. Stroke, on the other hand, may results from either clotting in, or bleeding from, one of the brain arteries. Hypothetically, Aspirin would be useful in case of clotting, but harmful with bleeding. Since it is impossible without a CT scan to identify the underlying issue, aspirin should be avoided in stroke.

I lost my father 3 months ago to heart attack. I am sure things would have been totally different, had I known what I know now.
